Australian soap opera randomness

Any one else out there who remembers The Sutherland Family from the long running soap opera Home And Away (one of my major guilty pleasures)?
For those who have forgotten them, they consisted of Dad, Rhys, Mum Shelly, their eldest daughter Dani and their youngest daughters who were twins called Jade (who had freaky eyes) and Kristy. Max arrived later , who was dumped on their doorstep, after Rhys’ brother fucked off when he had gotten himself into a lot debt, later joined them.
They were the unluckiest family in the history of the world. I always wanted to know just what the hell did they do to become so unlucky? Did they break every mirror in a hall of mirrors? Did they walk under every ladder in a ladder factory? Did a gypsy they pissed off curse them?
Here is a very short list of some the shit that has happened to them-
- Dani was rapped
- They were in a shipwreck
- Kristy fell in love with her sister’s rapists, which in typical Home And Away fashion, this little fact was completely forgotten by the entire town within a matter months.
- Kristy kindness failed and she needed a transplant.
- They also fell down a disused mineshaft, where was Skipy to save them; he really dropped the ball on that one.
Oh and here is my favorite thing that that happened to them-
It turned out that Jade and Kristy were switched at birth. When this was brought to light, none one involved ever thought of taking the hospital to court. I’d have thought that if this happened to the vast majority of people, they would be giving their lawyer a phone.
I was just awaiting the day that they were all abducted by aliens, everything else had happened to them, so it wouldn’t have surprised me in the slightest if they were abducted by aliens.

something odd that happened when in stevens green shoping center
When I was out and about in town yesterday, I popped in the St. Stevens green shopping centre, and decided to pop into unique with the mind to maybe pick up a few t-shirts, which I really didn’t need, but I am addicted to buying what can I say. In the shop, I heard some body shouting in the dressing room, I was sure what he was on about. I was mildly concerned about what had gotten him so annoyed, but that interested waned after only 30 seconds or so, and I continued to potter around the shop.
The person in the cubical continued with angry foul-mouthed outbursts, and it became very clear to me that he was a cross dresser.

MGMT review
Artist: MGMT
Album: Oracular Spectacular
Label: Columbia Records
Released:Tuesday 22nd January 2008

Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden are the two men behind the MGMT. for those unaware of them they play a brand of retro electro (or Rotro is how I have describe their sound).
Lead single time to pretend is a laid back slice of electro funk, which is heavily influenced by 80’s electro.
Other highlights include, Electric Feel, which would not sound out of place in a 70’s porn movie.
The best track on the album is the kids, which is as catchy as a bout of crabs from a prostitute.
The only tracks on the record that are of no use are Weekend Wars And The Youth. both of which, are alright but like the extreemly cool feel that dominates this release.
Video for Time To Pretend
The production by Dave Friedman (who has worked with the Flaming Lips, Weezer and many other bands) is really amazing. He brings his trademark production, which is always is a big and expansive, which really adds a kick to this record. if this album was produced by anyone else then it may have sounded flat, but this is only speculation. this is a brilant and confident debut that shows a lot of promise this band are capable of releasing new and exicting music long into the future.

Live gig review.
Band: Ham Sandwich
Venue: Whelan’s
Date: Saturday 23 rd February 2008
When Ham Sandwich appeared on Phantom 105.2 FM’s Access All Areas, Naimh announced that co singer Podge had a very bad throat infection and it was touch and go that he will be able to perform at gig.
Thankfully he was able to perform, but what was even better, was that he showed no sings of having a throat infection. Ham Sandwich was on flying from. The band was extremely tight, and the banter from Naimh and Podge was top notch. When the balloons and confetti were thrown from the balcony, it added to the atmosphere of fun, ok so maybe it was a rip off of the Flaming Lips, but balloons and confetti are always a good way to create a party atmosphere. On a side note, it must be a mother fucker for the clean up crew.
Words live
Highlights of the gig were Words, Sad Song and St Christopher. Another brilliant song was their first encore, a cover of Piece Of Me by Brittany. It was freaking hilarious to see people crowd surfing to a Brittany Spears track.

The biggest reaction was Click… Click… BOOM, bringing the gig to a brilliantly rocking end. It is when Ham Sandwich play live that they are at the top of their game. This was a truly awesome show, from one of the premiere Irish rock band at the moment. You owe it yourself to go a long and see this band the next time Ham Sandwich play a live show, as it is really a lot of fun, great band, great gig

Normally I don’t push any products on my site, but this is an expectation, because this advert held a dear place in my heart. When I watched it back on youtube, it brought back floods of memories

Tay Zonday – Chocolate Rain
Maybe, I am out of the loop, but I only recently discovered this song, and I think that this is a funky and quirky piece of pop music, do you agree ?

Ham Sandwich Review
Album: Carry The Meek
Label: The Route 109 Recording Co
Released: Friday 15th 2008
Ham Sandwich have been releasing singles since late 2006. the anticipation for their debut album has slowly but surely rising.
What has always made this band stand out from the crowd is largely due to the twin vocals of Podge And Naimh. Podge’s gruff voice really complement Naimh’s much sweeter voice. This is used to brilliant effect on the ten tracks, all of which are brilliant Indie anthems.
and the wait is finally the wait is over for their debut album is over, but was it worth it? The answer is a resounding, big fat, yes!
Singles, St Christopher, Keepsake, Words, Click, Click… BOOM! When trying to come with a weak spot on this album, its really hard, as it ticks all the boxes that you want it to. its not the best record of all time, but its still a cracking listen.
when Ham Sandwich recently won the Hope For 2008 award at The Meteor Awards . it was truly were worthy winners, hopefully they continue to grow and release more brilliant records.

Lollipop day is on the
February the 22nd- 23rd is the flagship fund raising day for oesophageal cancer. The cancer attacks the swallowing tube, which obvious would make hard for some one to swallow.
So is just me, or is it ironic that the way in which Oesophageal Cancer Fund have chosen to raise funds is by selling lollipops?
