This is a serious post by the Latchco

With the Olympic games being held in China in a several months time, it’s extremely relevant to mention that the Chinese Communists regime has had a pretty awful record when in comes to human rights.
The Olympic games will bring in a vast amount of money into the country. With this in mind, the governments of the world now how have a golden opportunity to stop the Chinese communist leaders human rights offences, by pulling out of the games if the Chinese government do not change their ways.
This is a topic that is widely been discussed by all strands of the media. So why write on a topic that the media has already extensively reported on? The reason for writing on this topic is because it is a point that needs to be reiterated.
People will have the opinion that a boycott will never achieve a long-term change in the abuses of their people and that after the cameras have gone, the government will revert back to their old ways. There is a chance that this happen but it would be much better for the governments of the world to try and enact change in China, rather than sitting on their backsides and do nothing.
People also think that the worlds of politics and sport should always be separate, but in this case the two are inextricably mixed. The Communists party in China will use this in order to gloss over the abuses the government have carried out over the years. This is another extremely important reason for the governments of the world need to boycott the games in the summer.
What has the Hairy Latchco done to try and stop this abuse, other than writing an embittered post on a blog? To be honest with you, the answer is nothing. The Latchco will sign a petition to against the human rights abuses, how ever futile that maybe.
Bottom line, this is a golden opportunity that the governments around the globe are in danger of letting slip through their collective fingers, the time for action is now, the governments must try and save the people of China more pain and suffering.

Be Your Own Pet Get Awkward review

Album: Get Awkward
Artist: Be Your Own Pet
Label: Ecstatic Peace
Released: Tuesday 18th March 2008
There isn’t much point in me writing a long review for this album, as it can be summed up in two paragraphs.
Video For The Kelly Affair
Be Your Pet’s second album is a teenage tantrum set to music. And it’s fucking brilliant. Play this one extremely loud; it’s the only way to listen to Get Awkward.

This story is the most bizarre stories that I have ever heard in my life has got to be the story of a man by the name Lee Mingwi, who was originally named Tracey, has announced that he is pregnant. Apparently five months pregnant, that is the story in a nutshell.
Normally I would throw an attempt at humor, but this story is just too weird for me to even attempt to construct a joke, here is a picture of the man in question.

Foal Antidotes review
Album: Antidotes
Artist: Foals
Label: Transgressive
Release: Monday 24th March 2008
For the most part when a new band is hyped up in the media, when I hear their album, it usually ends up in disappointment. they have been a few exceptions .
One of those rare examples was Interpol. More often than not my favorite albums as of late, have been those that have not been hyped to death by music magazines, a prime example was Mirrored.
When I heard Atlas on the radio, it blew me away, I hadn’t heard anything like it, when I heard the album, it too blew my mind. Maybe there was a buzz before Mirrored was released, but I hadn’t heard anything about the band.
Foals are the latest in a long line of bands that have been hype up. the hype for this album began when the played in 2006 at south by south west. and the band took their time in releasing their debut. so after a near two year wait, has it been worth it?
Not really, Antidotes isn’t terrible, Cassius and Balloons, are brilliant slices of dance math rock (what ever the fuck math rock is, I dunno, but that is what they are being called) but it’s far from a masterpiece. All the songs after track four begin to sound a sound the very similar .
Also, I was a little annoyed that neither Mathletics nor Hummer was included on the UK version of the album, as they are two of the best singles of last year.
Cassius Video
Maybe their follow up they will improve, but to be honest, I don’t think that they will. With a backlash already beginning and the bands record isn’t even out a week, all the sings are pointing towards Foals being added to the list of band that quickly rose to promise and then quickly faded into obscurity.

R.E.M Accelerate review

Album: Accelerate
Artist: R.E.M.
Label: Wea
Released: April 1st
After hearing the album for gratis on R.E.M.’s. Facebook page, I felt that a quick review a necessity.
This album is really freaking good; it will be a delight to the R.E.M faithful who thought that the band’s last couple of effort were not up to the standard of their older material.
The album kicks off with the short, punchy rocker Living Well is The Best From Of Revenge, and continues to rock for the rest of the play list. Hollow man sound quite a lot like Dinosaur Jr. in places.
The best way to play this album is loud, very loud, so loud that it could blow a speaker. This is a great album, that’s the bottom line.

Pretty. Odd album review

Album: Pretty. Odd
Artist: Panic At The Disco
Label: 24 Mar 2008
Released: Fuelled By Ramen
When I first heard I Write Sins Not Tradigies, I really liked the song; it was good up beat rock song, which is never a bad thing. So I couldn’t wait to hear more of them.
Then I listened to A Fever You Cant Sweat Out, and what a shit load of fuck it was. That was one of the worst things that I have ever heard. It was listening to someone running their fingers nails down a blackboard.
But I wont dwell on A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out to much, because it will just put me in a fowl mood for the rest of the week.
So I never, thought that I would listen to anything that they released again, so when I heard Nine In The Afternoon, at first I disliked it, because it reminded me of the first album. But try as I may to dislike the song, I couldn’t. It is a great slice of 60’s inspired rock.
Video For Nine In The Afternoon
Instead of being once bitten twice shy, I decided to check out Pretty. Odd. And to my shock, I really enjoyed this record. Nine In The Afternoon is fair reflection of how this album sounds.
If you, like me had a strong disliking for the band in the past, listen to a few tracks on the bands myspace with an open mind, I think that that you will really enjoy this record.

James Rolfe Documentary
Here is another post about James Rolfe, I know that it make come across as a bit stalkerish for me to put up two posts in two days about his guy, but the reason that I have chosen to do so, is because I found a documentary that he made about himself, and I though that it was a tender and fascinating look at how he got into film making and how he went on to create the Angry video game nerd and his future plans
Here is the documentary.
So do you think that this was a good as I think that is?

Ross Kemp on gangs
For those of you out there who are not aware of this show, Ross Kemp on Gangs was broadcast a few years back on Sky One.
This documentary saw Ross going to countries all around the globe to try and get a handle of how men got involved with gangs. As well as seeing how young men are tempted into the gang life, it also shows the effects that the violence had on the communities at large.
They usually, in my opinion, put out extremely superficial documentaries, or whenever they do put out documentaries, they are extremely one sided.
Ross Kemp on gangs bucks this trend. As its extremely balanced and is a detailed look at what leads people down the road in to becoming embroiled in the viscous underworld of gang culture, with out ever glamorising.
Ross Kemp on Gangs- Cape Town
synopsis of the episode
Ross Kemp visits Cape Town, South Africa, to investigate the gang problems in the South African city.
It also hammered home the point to me, that safety and I the comfort that I enjoy on daily basis is merely an accident of birth.
Every one who was involved with this show, should really be proud of themselves for making such an intelligent and well produced piece of TV journalism and a well deserved winner of it’s BAFTA award.

Jame Rolfe, is my new favorite video poster on the Interweb.
Maybe it’s the inner nerd in me, but I recently found the videos of James Rolfe on Youtube and I think that this guy is brilliant. He began posting videos under the moniker the Angry Nintendo Nerd in 2006.
his videos as the Angry NES are foul mouth outbursts about games on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). He has since gone on to reviews for other systems; they are no different.
Bible Games
He has also diversified into doing movie reviews. Which unlike when he dose his game reviews, are far more level headed and contain less of the crude elements of his Angry Video Game Nerd videos.
Rambo 2008 review
As well as branching out into reviewing movies, he has also done a series of angry rants, much closer in tone to the games reviews. They are entitled you know what’s bullshit.
You know what’s bullshit part one
If you like what he has done, then you check him out on youtube, in which he has posted up over 84 videos at the moment. In order to find them out, go on to youtube (bectchya, couldn’t figure that one out on your own)
Then in the search engine, type –
James Nintendo nerd
Or go on to his official website
