Ross Kemp on gangs

March 18, 2008

For those of you out there who are not aware of this show, Ross Kemp on Gangs was broadcast a few years back on Sky One.

This documentary saw Ross going to countries all around the globe to try and get a handle of how men got involved with gangs. As well as seeing how young men are tempted into the gang life, it also shows the effects that the violence had on the communities at large.

They usually, in my opinion, put out extremely superficial documentaries, or whenever they do put out documentaries, they are extremely one sided.

Ross Kemp on gangs bucks this trend. As its extremely balanced and is a detailed look at what leads people down the road in to becoming embroiled in the viscous underworld of gang culture, with out ever glamorising.

Ross Kemp on Gangs- Cape Town

synopsis of the episode

Ross Kemp visits Cape Town, South Africa, to investigate the gang problems in the South African city.

It also hammered home the point to me, that safety and I the comfort that I enjoy on daily basis is merely an accident of birth.

Every one who was involved with this show, should really be proud of themselves for making such an intelligent and well produced piece of TV journalism and a well deserved winner of it’s BAFTA award.
