Like the vast majority of Irish people,  I have been hearing a lot lately about the case of convicted rapist Larry Murphy. I’m not to sure how much international coverage this crime has received. I cant image that it is that well known out side of Ireland, so I am going to recap the essential information about the crime that Larry Murphy committed.

Larry Murphy abducted a woman, whose name I cannot remember, which is terrible I know, so please forgive me for not being able to remember her name. anyway, what happened was, Larry Murphy, put a bag over his head, put her into a car boot and drove to location miles away from where she was abducted. When he arrived at the location, he removed her from the boot, and proceeded to rape her.

And two passers by, were walking in the area, and discovered the crime happening. There is no doubt in mind, that if that had not happen she wouldn’t be alive right now.

Larry Murphy has been describe as evil, which I’d agree with. People have describe this man, as sick, clearly anyone who commits such a act, is defiantly sick in the head., and of course people have called him in human, now this is where I have to disagree with those who call his actions as inhuman. How could I hold such a position, well I am going to describe to you why his act is far from inhuman.

Since the being of time, we have shown that we are capable of committing the most heinous and hideous acts of violence and degradation. Look at the horrid acts of rape, murder and degradation  that the Native Americas went through, as but one example of horrid actions.

And the reason we label  these acts, and the acts committed by Larry Murphy as inhuman, is because, we are ashamed, that we are able to do this to one another, we do not want to believe that it’s true, but the sad, ugly fact is that being cruel to each other, is an all too human trait.

Arcade Fire The Suburbs review

In 2004, on the back of there debut release Funeral, Arcade Fire became the darlings of the Indie music scene, so I decided to pick up a copy of the record, but to be honest I did see what the big deal was.

Yet  for some reason, I kept listening to it and slowly began to see why so many people loved them, and now it is one of the few albums that I have that I would label as perfection.

However, the same couldn’t be the same for the 2007 follow up Neon Bible, it was bloated and dull, and I tried to get into, I really did, but there was no such eureka moment, I pretty much hated it. It wasn’t all bad, I really love Keep The Car Running, Intervention and Antichrist Television blues but there are eleven tracks on the album, and only three are good, that is fucking terrible.

Having been so disappointed by Neon Bible, I was extremely apprehensive in approaching the suburbs, and this wasn’t helped when I heard some of the songs from the album on the radio before it came out.

Thank sweet heavily Christ, The Suburbs is a welcome return to from.

The suburbs, is a journey into the dark underbelly of suburban life, and it’s a journey that I will be taking again and again. This is an album, that contains the bombast that Arcade Fire have become known for, but it also contains more introspective and quite  moments.

This album, has similarities to their debut, but there is enough original ideas that prevent this from being a carbon copy.

But, I really cant see this converting anyone who previously weren’t fans of the band, but if you are a fan, you wills ove this, and if you were disappointed by this, you will really love The Suburbs.
